DAKAR (2016 Rio Olympics) - The future of Moustapha Gaye and Cheick Sarr as head coaches of Senegal's women's and men's teams respectively is expected to be decided in the coming weeks.

Talking to FIBA.com, Babacar Ndiaye, the Chairman of the Senegalese Basketball Federation (FSBB), insisted it is about time to reflect on last summer's accomplishments and look at what needs to be improved.

"The National Technical Direction has announced that the contracts of our national teams coaching staffs have come to an end," he explained. "We will now be building new men, women and youth teams."

Although he did not provide details about the new coaching staff, it seems that there will be some major changes.

Gaye led Senegal to the title at AfroBasket Women 2015 in October in Yaounde, Cameroon, and as result the Western Africans secured the only automatic qualification place on offer for African teams for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The Senegalese women last played at the Olympics in 2000.

And the President of Senegal, Macky Sall, made sure to congratulate the team.

In August in Rades, Tunisia, Sarr's team opened AfroBasket 2015 with five wins in as many games, but lost to Nigeria in the Semi-Finals and then fell to hosts Tunisia in the Third-Place Game. The Senegalese finished fourth, a result that earned them a place in the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs) where they will play in an attempt to return to the Olympics for the first time since 1980.

Gaye and Sarr saw their contracts with the FSBB come to an end following the conclusion of the continental championships.

Looking ahead to the OQTs, Ndiaye has a clear objective in mind for the men's national team.

Our goal is to gather all our best players knowing that we could face off tough teams [in the OQTs] such as France, Serbia, Italy and Greece. We should do more than just make up numbers. - Ndiaye

Six countries including Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Philippines, Serbia and Turkey are in the running to hold the three 6-team OQTs that will run during the week of 4-10 July. The winner of each OQT will qualify for Rio.

If Senegal, who are 31st in the FIBA World Ranking Men, win their OQT, it will mark their fourth Olympic appearance.
