Hettsheimeir excited to face former club Real Madrid

SAO PAULO (Intercontinental Cup 2015) - The time is quickly approaching for FIBA Americas League champions Bauru to square off against Real Madrid in the Intercontinental Cup 2015.

Real earned the honor to represent the old continent in the event when the Spanish giants won the Euroleague.

The games will be held on 25 September and then two days later.

They will have special significance for one player in the Bauru team. His name is Rafael Hettsheimeir.

In the 2012-13 campaign, Brazil international Hettsheimeir played for Real and helped them finish runners-up in the Euroleague.and then win Spanish Liga Endesa (ACB).

"It was a unique moment to play in a great team like Real Madrid," Hettsheimeir said.

"We were champions of the ACB [Spanish League] and runners-up in the Euroleague, that was a very special moment in my career."

The 29-year-old pivot has the opportunity to meet old friends, but now from the other side of the court.

""It will be great to see them," he said.

"The team of Real Madrid plays as a family. They play in harmony and that’s why they have won so many titles."

Hettsheimeir has plenty of incentive to go out and lead his side to victory.

Only last year, fellow Brazilians Flamengo beat 2015 Euroleague champions Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Real Madrid is a team that doesn't lose often so we have to play together to get this title. - Hettsheimeir

"It's a championship that every athlete wants to play in," he said.

"I like to play this type of game and I'm very happy to be in the Intercontinental Cup."

Real Madrid has plenty of quality.

Five of the players - Felipe Reyes, Sergio Rodriguez, Sergio Llull, Rudy Fernandez and Willie Hernangomez - just helped Spain capture the EuroBasket title.

"We have to have two perfect games," Hettsheimeir said.

"I know it's hard, but you need to focus on the perfect game, having the least possible losses, that is the detail that will really make a difference."

Bauru and Real Madrid will play 25 September at 9pm local time and Sunday 27-9) at 12 noon in the Ibirapuera Gymnasium.
