FIBA growing basketball throughout Oceania

KIRIBATI/MARSHALL ISLANDS/PALAU/NORTHERN MARIANS – FIBA is committed to working closely with basketball federations to help develop their capacity and grow the game of basketball around the world.

As part of this commitment, FIBA Development Manager – Oceania, Annie La Fleur is currently traveling the North Pacific to visit basketball federations in Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau and Northern Marianas.

La Fleur is currently visiting the Kiribati Basketball Federation until the 27th of May before visiting Marshall Islands (27th of May – 2nd of June), Palau (2nd – 8th of June) and finally Northern Marians (8th – 11th of June).

La Fleur will be assisting  federations, meeting with local government officials plus facilitating coaching, refereeing and player clinics throughout her visits.

“It is an amazing feeling being able to visit these countries and see first hand the remarkable work our federations are doing. Many of these federations have to deal with a lack of facilities, equipment and staff. Yet, despite these challenges, they all find their own ways to get the job done,” commented La Fleur.

FIBA Executive Director – Oceania, David Crocker commented on the importance of strengthening relationships with federations during these visits.

“FIBA works very closely with each of its federations to assist in their development. This requires a strong relationship between FIBA and each individual federation. This relationship is strengthened whenever we are able to have a physical presence in country.”
