Asia's national federations brought up to speed through Administration Seminars

BEIRUT - FIBA's Asia Regional Office recently completed a month-long programme that involved Administration Seminars for the National Federation Executives at the Sub-Zone level.

Top level staff and officers of various national federations participated in the seminars - held under the FIBA Asia Development Plan (FADP) - with sessions conducted by staff members of various departments from both FIBA's headquarters and FIBA Asia's offices.

The seminars covered various topics, ranging from the measures that national federations should take to strengthen their administrative and governance structures, to giving them a view of FIBA's new competition system that will come into effect worldwide in 2017.

FIBA's Global Action Plan for National Federations development, with a more focused approach on Asia, was also explained to the participants.

A special session on 3x3 with emphasis on National Federations development was also a part of the seminar.

The programme tipped off with the Seminar for the South East Asia Basketball Association (SEABA) National Federations in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur from 11-13 May, before moving to Dhaka in Bangladesh for the Seminar for the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) National Federations from 15-17 May.

The Seminar for the West Asia Basketball Association (WABA) National Federations was hosted in Beirut, Lebanon from 22-24 May and was followed by the one for Gulf National Federations in the Qatari capital of Doha from 26-29 May.

The coming weeks will see similar seminars organised for the National Federations belonging to the Central Asian Basketball Association (CABA) and the East Asian Basketball Association (EABA).

"The main focus of these Seminars is to give the National Federations a reality check on how they stand as well as to prepare them for the future," said FIBA's Asia Regional Director, Mr Hagop Khajirian.

"We started these Seminars two years ago under the FIBA Asia Development Plan and we are really pleased at the progress the National Federations have made in terms of putting together a strong governance and efficient administrative structure.

"It is really heartening to note that the NFs in Asia are moving hand in hand to work towards FIBA's global vision. These Seminars are a part of FIBA Asia's efforts to ensure everything works out smooth," he said.
