Mexico handed a dream debut at FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup

MEXICO CITY (FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2017) - Mexico have been handed the opportunity to participate in their first-ever FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup.

They have been handed the spot in the wake of the ongoing suspension of the Brazil Basketball Confederation (CBB) which has paved the way for Mexico's inclusion after the FIBA Central Board recently gave the green light for replacements to be confirmed.

Mexico finished in fifth place at last year's FIBA Americas U18 Women's Championship and will join fellow Americas representatives, USA, Canada and Puerto Rico in Udine and Cividale del Friuli.

While it will be their debut on the global stage at U19 level, Mexico do have consecutive appearances at the FIBA U17 Women's World Championship under their belts and may be tempted to call upon some younger players who stepped out in Zaragoza last year.

However, it is likely they will be led by their all-1998 born team who played in Chile at U18 level and that means a big reliance on Ornella Rivera, Celilly Telles and Nohemi Rosles, who all posted double-digit scoring returns in Valdivia.

Mexico will face Australia, Hungary and Japan in Group D.
