PR N°17 - Czech Republic to host FIBA U17 World C'ship for Women instead of Slovak Republic

MIES, Switzerland/PRAGUE, Czech Republic (2014 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women) - The 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women, originally set to take place in Bratislava, Slovak Republic, will instead be played in the Czech Republic, FIBA announced on Saturday.

The decision comes following the suspension of the Slovak Republic's national basketball federation by FIBA's Central Board on Monday 7 April.

Despite the change of host country, the championship will still be played on the same dates (Saturday 28 June-Sunday 6 July), and the results of the draw carried out on 26 February still apply.

The Slovak Republic will not be replaced in the 16-team field and could still take part in the championship if the national federation meets requirements set out by FIBA to have the suspension lifted.

The Czech cities of Klatovy and Plzen, roughly 100 kilometres to the south west of the country's capital Prague, will host the third edition of the FIBA U17 World Championship for Women.
