Action set to tip off on Road to Spain 2018


MIES (FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018) - Fourteen coveted tickets for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 will be claimed during the 2017 season of FIBA Continental Cups which tips off on Friday.

A prestigious platform for the cream of women's basketball talent from around the globe, next year's tournament in Spain will be made up of nations spanning FIBA's four regions - Africa, Americas, Asia and Europe.

With the host nation and reigning Olympic champions USA having already claimed two spots, there are 14 more slots to fill and that adds some extra spice and excitement to the Continental Cups lying in wait.

Here is a look at the much-anticipated action set to take place over the next two months.

FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 (June 16-25)


Teams (16): Belarus, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine.
Defending champions: Serbia

FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017 (July 23-29)

Teams (8): Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, D.P.R. of Korea, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and Philippines.

FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2017 (August 6-13)

Teams (10): Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Virgin Islands have all qualified.

FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 (August 18-27)

Teams (12): Angola, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt, Guinea, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia have all qualified; 1 more team to qualify via the Zone 4 Qualifiers; 1 team to be determined through process of attribution of wild card.
