Gasol talks about upcoming Olympic showdown with France

RIO DE JANEIRO (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - And so it comes to this, another titanic battle between Spain and France.

Spain's 92-73 victory over Argentina on Monday set up a Quarter-Final clash between the European giants at the Olympics. The teams met at the same stage four years ago and Spain won, 66-59, before going on to reach the Final.

Speaking immediately after Monday's win, Spain superstar Pau Gasol told us: "France is a team that we have faced many times. It's going to be a difficult match-up. We know them well.

"Now we've got to rest, prepare and continue playing the way we've been playing the last three games. The intensity, the defensive mindset, moving the ball with the pace that we're playing, if we do that, we've got a good chance." - Gasol

"They beat us two years ago, we beat them last year and now, we face each other again in a critical game in the Quarter-Finals so we're just going to have to prepare well and see who wins this time."

France upset Spain in the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Madrid but last year, Gasol led Spain past France after overtime in Lille, a result that qualified the winners for the Rio de Janeiro Games.

"You can't expect an easy matchup in the Quarter-Finals anyway, especially with the level of the teams that are moving forward," Gasol said. "We know it's going to be difficult no matter what.

"Now we've got to rest, prepare and continue playing the way we've been playing the last three games. The intensity, the defensive mindset, moving the ball with the pace that we're playing, if we do that, we've got a good chance."

Gasol will now go up against his new teammate in the NBA, France's Tony Parker. The two are friends but they have also been great rivals on the court in international basketball.

Parker reacted quickly after Spain beat Argentina.
