Vos gets players to follow Brazil federation's footprint

SAO SEBASTIAO DE PARAISO (2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship) - Guilherme Vos is using the bonus of chemistry and continuity to get his Brazil players prepped for the FIBA U19 Women's World Championship.

Closing in on the selection of his final roster, the play-caller is working with the last remaining 15 players at the Olympic Sao Sebastiao do Paraíso Arena in Minas Gerais and focusing on them singing from a familiar song sheet.

That's because the overwhelming nucleus of his team will be formed from those that stepped out at the FIBA Americas U18 Women’s Championship last year - with only a handful of newcomers to integrate ahead of the action in Chekhov and Vidnoe.

"We have athletes who are coming from the previous base teams and are used to the pace and the footprint of a selection," explained a contented Vos.

"Depending on the time we have to work, I'll focus on specific exercises of the sport and invest heavily in physical preparation.

"The objective is the improvement and performance of these girls so they get to understand the tactical part of the game and the philosophy of the group.

Certainly the team that is selected will fight to get as high as possible. - Vos

"We will be stronger from the second week of preparation and then start thinking about the friendlies.

"Now the key is to keep the group's hegemony.

"The ultimate goal is to put all athletes the same standard of work.

Vos and his players will depart for Russia on 11 July and compete in Group D with Australia, Korea and Serbia.

Brazil finished sixth at the last edition of the tournament in Lithuania. They had previously stood on the last step of the podium in 2011, thanks mainly to  the dominance of tournament star Damiris Dantas, who led all players in scoring in Chile.

In fact Brazil have had the leading scorer in the last two tournaments, with Isabela Ramona having averaged 18 points per game in 2013.

Brazil preliminary squad for 2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship: Aline Da Moura, Bianca Araujo Da Silva, Gabriela Guimaraes, Jennifer Calixto, Kananda Beneditco, Lays Da Silva, Monique Soares Pereira, Leticia Josefino, Mariana Dias, Mariane De Carvalho, Rebecca Moura, Susan Cortes, Tayna Dos Reis, Thayna Silva, Vitória Domingos.
