Poland pick EuroBasket Women 2015 preliminary squad

WARSAW (EuroBasket Women 2015) - Returning to EuroBasket Women for the first time since hosting it in 2011, Poland have revealed the list of players who will be tasked with fighting for a place on the roster for this summer's edition of the event.

Once again the team will revolve around UMMC Ekaterinburg star and WNBA center Ewelina Kobryn, who reversed her decision to retire from national team duties to help her country punch their ticket for Hungary and Romania last year.

She will join her team-mates in preparation just over a fortnight later than the 5 May start date which the rest of the squad will be required to work to.

Kobryn currently has next week's EuroLeague Women Final Four in Prague to focus on, as does head coach Jacek Winnicki who at the helm of Fenerbahce, could feasibly have to come up with a strategy to stop his marquee national team player if their respective teams meet in the Final.

Winnicki will certainly be buoyed by being able to call upon extra quality when Poland step out in Oradea to face Belarus, Greece, Italy and Turkey.

That is because they have naturalised Julie McBride, who will use her class to pull the strings in the backcourt and add a much needed scoring boost.

Her creative ability has been clear to see in the Polish League with Artego Bydgoszcz, having previously excelled for much of her club career in Turkey after a highly-productive time in the NCAA.

Poland have opted to go with experience in their candidate list, with no teenage prospects to speak of, although they won't be able to utilise the veteran know-how of former star Agnieszka Bibrzycka who has resisted the lure of also making a return to action.

The players who stepped out last summer in the successful 2nd Qualification Round are generally included with the exception of Weronika Idczak.

Magdalena Leciejewska who missed the action last year has been recalled by Winnicki, who coached her when he was at CCC Polkowice.

Poland will play Sweden in Sopot on May 16 and 17, prior to playing in a preparation tournament in Spain against the hosts, Canada and Latvia from May 27-1 June.

They will then put the finishing touches to their warm-up plans at a tournament in France where they will play Canada, Italy and Les Bleues from 3-5 June.

Poland preliminary roster for EuroBasket Women 2015: Magdalena Bibrzycka, Marta Jujka, Magdalena Kaczmarska, Ewelina Kobryn, Martyna Koc, Katarzyna Krezel, Magdalena Leciejewska, Julie McBride, Dominika Miloszewska, Malgorzata Misiuk, Aldona Morawiec, Elzbieta Mowlik, Monika Naczk, Dominika Owczarzak, Aleksandra Pawlak, Paulina Pawlak, Agnieszka Skobel, Angelika Stankiewicz, Magdalena Szajtauer, Agnieszka Szott-Hejmej, Magdalena Zietara, Justyna Zurowska-Cegielska.
