Finns thrill capacity crowd with warm-up win

HELSINKI (EuroBasket 2015) - It's all good for Finland a week before they launch their EuroBasket 2015 campaign.

That was the message from Jamar Wilson, a newcomer to the squad this summer, following the team's 88-68 triumph over Ukraine in their warm-up game on Friday - a contest played in the Helsinki Ice Hall before 7,149 fans on Friday night.

"It's amazing," Wilson said.

"We have some of the best fans. They sold out. It's just an unbelievable experience."

Finland's fans travelled in mass to the FIBA Basketball World Cup last year in Bilbao to create a real spectacle at all of their games.

"I feel like I wish we could play at home all the time," Wilson said.

"I'm excited to go to France.

"I heard there are going to be a lot of [Finnish] fans there as well."

It's just going to be an epic time and an epic week. - Wilson

At the EuroBasket (5-20 September), Finland will play in Montpellier against Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Israel, Russia and Poland.

Wilson says the players have been working hard in practice and finding a good chemistry.

"We've been training really hard," he said.

"It's good to have some rest and I think our mental (state) is really good now as well, a lot of things were up in the air a few weeks ago.

"Guys didn't know the team, guys trying to figure out their roles.

"Now everyone is happy and wants to play for each other.

"Not that that was the case before, but everyone just wants to play for each other and win."

Ukraine provided a good test for the Susijengi before their departure to Montpellier.

The Finns jumped out to an 28-11 advantage by the end of the first quarter only for Ievgen Murzin's team to battle back and close the gap to 69-60 midway through the fourth quarter.

Henrik Dettmann's team then outscored the visitors 19-8 over the last five minutes.

It was awesome to watch that one through 12, everyone came with energy. - Wilson

"Everyone just got confidence and fed off of each other and I think that's what we need in order to be successful," Wilson said.

"We executed, we played hard.

"The game is about runs. Ukraine made a run. We gathered up and we made our big run at the end and finished the game.

"That's how you want to win.

"Obviously people want to win by 30 every time but to get close and then have to concentrate, that's a good way for us to go to France."
