KAMPALA (AfroBasket 2015) - Two weeks after a disappointing 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, Egypt returned to action on the African continent to win a qualifier tournament, punching their ticket for AfroBasket 2015.

The Pharaohs went unbeaten in four games and will compete in FIBA Africa's flagship tournament for the fifth straight time dating back to 2007.

Egypt head coach Amr Aboul Kheir selected all but three of the players who competed in Spain 2014.

Wael Badr and Sherif Genedy retired from national team duty and were replaced by Ahmed Hesham and Mohamed Ellathy, while Mohamed Adly came on for Ashraf Rabie.

The Egyptians, who aim to qualify for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, were the surprise package last summer in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, by finishing second at AfroBasket 2013 to qualify for Spain 2014.

Meanwhile, the FIBA Africa Zone 5 qualifier decided this past weekend at MTN Arena in Kampala, Uganda, saw Rwanda's streak of consecutive appearances at AfroBasket come to an end.

After competing in the last four editions of the continental championship, Rwanda were denied a place in Tunisia, where next summer's tournament will take place.

The surprise in the qualifier event came from the host nation Uganda who finished second, behind Egypt, and will play in Africa's biggest tournament for the first time in decades.

In Uganda, the qualification has been described as historical and a new beginning for basketball in the country.

Ivan Lumanyika was crucial in helping Uganda past region rivals Kenya 83-71 by finishing with a team-high 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

He later said: "I knew I would have to play well to impress and get playing time."

The FIBA Africa Zone 5 consisted of Egypt, Uganda, Kenya and Somalia.
