EuroLeague Women Preview: Wednesday 18 January

POLKOWICE (EuroLeague Women) – There are six EuroLeague Women games scheduled for Wednesday, with two clubs entering Week 9 still in pursuit of a first win of the campaign.

CCC Polkowice will welcome Tango Bourges Basket as they try to bounce back from last week's setback in Sopron when they fell apart in the second quarter and fell short after a subsequent rescue attempt.

"We knew that Sopron are very strong, but we couldn't start the game with enough energy and the aggressive defense we needed," said Jamierra Faulkner, who only joined the Polish side last month.

"We then also made a lot of little mistakes, which put together, meant it was too much for us to win the game."

Polkowice head coach Maros Kovacik was more blunt and scathing in his assessment - no doubt looking for a major improvement in front of the home fans.

He said: "Sopron deserved that victory with their first half, which for us was a disaster. We played like kids and without any energy."

At least CCC Polkowice will come into this week's game having won in the Polish League last weekend to bolster confidence.

Meanwhile Mersin are also hoping it will be ninth time lucky and if they do manage to take a win, it will have to be in style. That's because they face the only flawless club in the competition when Dynamo Kursk arrive in town.

Also in Group A, ZVVZ USK Prague make the relatively short trip over the borders to Krakow where they will take on Wisla Can-Pack. It's another home game for BLMA as they welcome in-form French star Sandrine Gruda back to her homeland with the high-flying Fenerbahce.

UMMC and Nadezhda are engaged in an intense battle for control at the top of Group B and after each collecting home wins last week, they both hit the road. The former go to Sopron who have been boosted by agreeing a contract extension for Serbian ace Aleksandra Crvendakic, while Nadezhda travel to ESBVA-LM.
