Indeed some observers of the women's game believe Ukraine have a real shot at making a big splash at the event, with a realistic opportunity to make the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 and perhaps even an outside shot at the podium.
This was reflected in the first power rankings for the event earlier in the week, with the competition for places outside of their leading light in Iagupova, a major factor in a lot of pre-tournament confidence.
Ukraine will field their first naturalized player in guard D'Andra Moss, who played briefly during the Qualifiers as the team took care of business with a fabulous double against defending champions, Serbia.
Ukraine will compete in Group A with Czech Republic, Hungary and Spain.
