Latvia look to final 12 to get them out of tricky Group D

RIGA (FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017) – Latvia are looking to navigate what many are describing as the designated 'Group of Death' at FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017.

As if the task was not difficult enough, playcaller Martin Zibarts has had to contend with some injury setbacks since his initial squad was announced. But, he has finally settled on the 12 players who will face the similarly ambitious Belgium, Montenegro and Russia.

Latvia roster for FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017
Elina Babkina Aija Brumermane Gunta Basko-Melnbarde Anna Dreimane
Ilze Jakobsone Ieva Krastina Kate Kreslina Kitija Laksa
Aija Putnina Anete Steinberga Paula Strautmane Kristine Vitola

As Latvia prepare to move on without the great contributions of Anete Jekabsone-Zogota, they still have the veteran hand of Gunta Basko-Melnbarde to guide them.

They can also rely on other players who have both EuroLeague Women and EuroCup Women experience, including frontcourt trio Anete Steinberga, Aija Putnina and Kristine Vitola.

Elina Babkina will give good combo options in the backcourt and there will be excitement around the continued evolution of Kitija Laksa.

Paula Strautmane gets a debut as reward for her performances in the NCAA with Quinnipac, but she won't get to play alongside sister Digna, who will continue to drive Latvia's successes at youth level.
