Musa, heir to the heir in waiting, steals the show in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO (FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers) - In a night that was supposed to herald in the return of a Bosnian legend, it was instead a legend in the making stealing the limelight.

Prior to Gameday 2 of the FIBA EuroBasket Qualifiers, all the talk was the return of Mirza Teletovic to a Bosnian jersey for the first time since EuroBasket 2013, as the home team hosted Sweden with both sides seeking their maiden win of the campaign.

However, from tip-off, it appeared that it would be his heir apparent who would instead be taking the home side to victory, Denver Nuggets' Jusuf Nurkic's 13-point first quarter haul, almost enough to outscore the entire Swedish team, who could only muster 16.

Sweden quickly awoke to the threat of Nurkic in the paint in the second period, and instead the game became a battle of two of Europe's best up-and-coming guards: 20-year-old Ludde Hakanson against 17-year-old local hero Dzanan Musa - the heir to the heir in waiting.

Twelve months removed from giving Bosnia and Herzegovina their first-ever gold medal in basketball, coming at the U16 European Championship in Lithuania, Musa was back at his best, as Nurkic and Teletovic both had to learn to share the spotlight, something neither are accustomed to wearing the blue and yellow of their Balkan nation.

In the end it would be Musa winning his battle with Hakanson, bettering his Swedish opponent's 15 points and 4 assists with 19 points and 11 rebounds from the bench, including a break-away two to see off Sweden's Hakanson-led comeback in the dying seconds.

Nurkic recorded 19 points and 15 rebounds, whilst Teletovic collected a healthy 12 points, with 7 coming from the charity stripe, 5 in the last two-and-a-half minutes.

Musa and co. will be back in action on Saturday night, when they seek revenge for their opening night loss against Russia.
