Russia line up 11 veterans for EuroBasket training camp

MOSCOW (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) - Russia's team for FIBA EuroBasket 2017 is starting to take shape with 11 veterans named for a training camp that will get underway on July 23.

Many of those players are about to take part in the VTB League Finals with CSKA Moscow or BC Khimki Moscow Region, with that series tipping off on Thursday. The majority also took part in Russia's unbeaten FIBA EuroBasket 2017 qualifying campaign last summer when they won all four games.

Dmitrii Kulagin, Vitaly Fridzon, Semen Antonov, Nikita Kurbanov, Andrey Vorontsevich (all CSKA) and Aleksey Shved (Khimki), who are among the 11 players named for the training camp, will be involved in the VTB League Finals. The showdown between CSKA and Khimki could last until June 18 if a deciding fifth game is needed.

Fridzon and Shved were absent last summer due to injury.

A host of other unnamed players will attend at a training camp (June 8-15) and try to catch the eye and earn invites to the main camp.

Russia, led by coach Sergei Bazarevich, won twice against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Sweden last year.

At FIBA EuroBasket 2017, Russia will play in Group D, in Istanbul, against Great Britain, Latvia, Belgium, Turkey and Serbia, a country that reached the Finals of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and last year's Olympics.
