BRASILIA (FIBA Basketball World Cup) - Brazil coach Ruben Magnano remained true to his word on Wednesday and called in-form Flamengo star Marcelo Machado out of national team retirement to play for the country at the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The sharpshooting 'Marcelinho' is among 10 players assured of spots in the side that will play in the tournament that tips off 30 August.

Machado ended his national team career after the London Olympics and then suffered a serious knee injury, yet he battled back to full fitness and this season played a pivotal role for a Flamengo side that won the FIBA Americas League and the Brazilian top flight.

Tiago Splitter, fresh off his first NBA title-winning campaign with the San Antonio Spurs, is among the 10 players named on Wednesday, as well as fellow NBA-ers Anderson Varejao (Cleveland Cavaliers), Leandro Barbosa (Phoenix Suns) and Nene (Washington Wizards).

Another prominent name is Brazil's starting point guard, Marcelinho Huertas, who just led Barcelona into the Spanish Liga Endesa Finals.

Flamengo scoring machine Marcus Vieira (Marquinhos), naturalized playmaker Larry James Taylor (Bauru Basquete), Alex Garcia and Guilherme Giovannoni (both Brasilia) are also in the 10.

The other two players are likely to be added from Brazil's team that competes at the South American Championship in Venezuela, a tournament that gets underway on 24 July.

Brazil's first training camp for for the FIBA Basketball World Cup gets underway on 20 July in Brasilia and finishes on the 28th.

Once in Spain, Brazil will play in Granada's Group A against hosts Spain, France, Serbia, Iran and Egypt.

Brazil needed a wild card to play at the World Cup after losing all four of their games at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship.

Nene, Varejao, Barbosa, Marquinhos and Splitter were unable to play last year.
