DEBRECEN (FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup) - FIBA announced on Monday 29 May at a press conference that Debrecen will stage the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2019.

Since 2015, the second largest city in Hungary has become one of the capitals of 3x3 basketball, playing host to the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup (2015), the FIBA 3x3 U18 Europe Cup (2016-18) and the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Debrecen Masters (2016-18).

FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak paid tribute to the quality of these events:

"Everything we invest is for the youth," Novak told the Hungarian audience.

"I would like to congratulate you on your vision. I want to emphasize that Debrecen has already organized fantastic events in the last two years."

The mayor of Debrecen Laszlo Papp rejoiced about hosting the yearly FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup, their first-ever 3x3 national team event in the open category:

"We are once again home to one of the most popular sports events," Papp explained.

"Our city can benefit from the huge interest around the event and the fact the games will be broadcast on TV."

Peter Bodnar (Secretary General of the Hungarian Basketball Federation), Istvan Becsky (City of Debrecen) and Andas Becsky (Sportszentrum Director) also participated in the press conference.

The event is set to be held on Kossuth Square in front of the iconic Reformed Great Church.

The dates will be confirmed at a later stage.
