FIBA holds talks with Brazilian basketball stakeholders and sports authorities

MIES - FIBA officials on Friday met a delegation consisting of Brazilian basketball stakeholders, representatives of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) and the Brazilian Sports Ministry as they all looked to resolve the issues that led to the Brazil Basketball Confederation (CBB) being suspended in November 2016.

FIBA's group - headed by President Horacio Muratore and Secretary General Patrick Baumann - expressed its appreciation for having all parties concerned sit around the same table. During their time together, they openly discussed the governance, finance and sporting problems which unfortunately still persist to this day.

FIBA provided a framework within which it - if the Brazilians so desire - can help in overcoming the problems and have the Brazilian federation reinstated ahead of FIBA's Mid-Term Congress in early May, before a busy summer of competitions and prior to the launch of FIBA’s New Competition System in November.

The discussions were frank and constructive and all involved expressed their strong wish to remedy the situation as soon as possible.

The Brazilian representatives will hold an internal meeting next week and get in contact with FIBA thereafter in order to start the process.
