PR N°38 - Toyota partnership marks 50 days to the start of the FIBA World Championship for Women

MIES, SWITZERLAND (FIBA World Championship for Women) - FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, and Toyota, the world-wide car manufacturer, on Friday announced they are teaming up for the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women which starts in 50 days (27 September-5 October).

The Japanese auto manufacturer has signed on as a Global Partner and will be the Official Car of the leading international women's basketball tournament.

Held every four years, the FIBA World Championship for Women brings together the 16 best national teams from across FIBA's five continental zones.

The 17th edition of the FIBA World Championship for Women takes place in Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey.

FIBA Secretary General and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member Patrick Baumann said: "The FIBA World Championship for Women is fast-approaching and we are extremely pleased to have a world-leading and renowned brand like Toyota come on board and be a part of this unique event. It speaks to the high quality level of the tournament."

FIBA and the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) will use the Championship to increase the impact of basketball in empowering young girls and women around the world.

This will be achieved through a strategy of setting affordable ticket prices that will enable families (with children), students, schools and corporations that support the personal development and education of children - in particular girls - to attend world class women's basketball games.

Additionally, PASS IT ON ( http://passiton.tbf.org.tr/), the TBF's social responsibility and legacy programme, will be tied into the tournament and ensure the impact of the Championship goes on long after the medal ceremony is over.
