FRA - France prepare to turn page at Turkey 2014

PARIS (FIBA World Championship for Women) - France women's national team head coach Valerie Garnier will only be able to call upon a handful of players who made the glorious run to the Final of the 2012 London Olympics after Les Bleues revealed their preliminary list of candidates for the forthcoming FIBA World Championship for Women.

While there are plenty of contenders with 24 players named, there are just four survivors from the roster that secured a silver medal during their exploits in the British capital just two years ago.

Only the quartet of Celine Dumerc, Sandrine Gruda, Emilie Gomis and Endene Miyem will return from the last time they competed at the global level, with the first two missing most of the preparation programme due to their WNBA commitments.

And, with a new coach at the helm and almost half of this year's list containing players who have never previously played at the senior level, it looks like France could be about to turn a new page.

Also now gone from the team which landed another silver medal at EuroBasket Women 2013 are the retired Edwige Lawson-Wade and Emmeline Ndongue, while Isabelle Yacoubou has not been shortlisted due to personal reasons.

There was no return as expected for center Elodie Godin who skipped last summer's programme, or for Jennifer Digbeu who is currently on maternity leave.

For any new chapter to be written, it will require an injection of some fresh faces onto the roster and opportunity knocks loudly for 11 potential debutantes, including some notable rising stars.

Aby Gaye and Olivia Epoupa both played at the FIBA U19 Championship for Women last year and are given a chance to join their team-mate Valeriane Ayayi, who surprised everybody by squeezing onto the roster for EuroBasket Women.

Helena Ciak of Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration is being touted as one of the strongest possible newcomers and is looking to seal a place with France short on numbers in the paint.
