FRA - France lay out preparation plans for Turkey 2014

PARIS (FIBA World Championship for Women) - France national team director Patrick Beesley has revealed the preparation programme of the women's national side ahead of the FIBA World Championship for Women, with 'Les Braqueuses' preparing to play no fewer than nine opponents who are all heading to Turkey.

In a comprehensive schedule which will begin on 30 July with almost a month of training at camps in both Clermont-Ferrand and Temple-sur-Lot, the friendly fixtures list will open up with a tournament in Limoges at the end of August.

Les Bleues will play Brazil who they could theoretically play in the Elimination Round or Quarter-Finals of the FIBA World Championship for Women, but only after firstly handling an African double with games pencilled in against Angola and also Group B opponents Mozambique.

On 10 September, national team head coach Valerie Garnier will take her players up against Japan, another potential opponent in the Final Phase. This outing in Boulazac will be sandwiched between two games against fellow European side Serbia who are in the other half of the draw.

The final three games will also be against teams initially playing in Istanbul rather than Ankara, with France firstly testing themselves on Friday 19 September in Paris against a Chinese team that looks to be in transition.

That match-up will be followed by what will be a real gauge of preparation progress.

Les Bleues will wrap up their programme of warm-up encounters with clashes against two of the medal favourites in Australia and USA, before the players finally pack their suitcases and head to the Turkish capital on Wednesday 24 September.

And once the plane wheels touch down, France will hope they are ready to face Canada, Mozambique and the hosts in the Group Phase of the showpiece event.

It still remains to be seen at what point any potential WNBA players such Celine Dumerc and Sandrine Gruda will link up with their colleagues.
