Record 5.7 million live views registered across Facebook and YouTube streaming

MIES (2016 FIBA U17 World Championships for Men and Women) - The live streaming of all games at the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championships for Men and Women has set new records across the board.

More than 3.1 million viewers tuned into FIBA's Facebook page and another 2.5 million watched on FIBA's YouTube channel the action that took place in Zaragoza, Spain from 22 June-3 July.

The 1.9 million views registered on YouTube for the men's games represents a 129 percent increase on the same event in 2014. Meanwhile, the 600,000 views for the women's games is a 350 percent hike on the figures from the corresponding competition two years ago.

The Men's Quarter-Final between France and Lithuania generated the most live views with 170,000 watching the overtime thriller on Facebook and another 50,000 on YouTube. The combined 220,000 views set a new live audience record for a youth basketball game, eclipsing the nearly 200,000 views registered for the Round of 16 clash between Australia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The record figures go a long way toward justifying FIBA's commitment to live stream 480 games and 840 hours across its leading world and continental youth national team championships on its YouTube and Facebook platforms this year. This will provide fans across the globe access to free and high quality streams of these events, while also help grow and develop basketball worldwide.
