Tall Ferns turn back plucky DPR Korea

BENGALURU (FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017) - New Zealand leaned on veterans Micaela Cocks and Jillian Harmon to turn back a plucky DPR Korea on Day 2 of the FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017.

With Cocks and Harmon taking over the scoring cudgels, the Tall Ferns withstood DPR Korea's explosive duo of Pak Hyang Jong ang Ro Suk Yong to notch their first win of the tournament, 71-50.

The result enabled the Kiwis to bounce back from last night's defeat at the hands of China and put them in a position to get a more favorable matchup in the Quarter-Finals.

New Zealand led wire to wire in this one, establishing the biggest gap at 24 points. The Tall Ferns asserted their might in the paint, outrebounding DPR Korea, 50-32, and outscoring them around the basket, 38-24.

Harmon tossed in 23 points to lead New Zealand, while Cocks had 18. On the other end, Pak paced DPR Korea with 20 points even as Ro added 15 of her own.

Day 3 sees New Zealand facing Chinese Taipei, while DPR Korea close out group play against China.
