Purpose
To teach offensive
concepts out of the fast break.
Procedure
Offensive players will
begin on one baseline and move to the other end executing a 5 man
“figure 8.” Returning to the
other end, players will
fill lanes into fast break options. Five defensive players at a time
will stand with a coach at half-court
and wait for him to call
out a number (1 through 5). The number of players the coach calls out
will get on the court to
defend the offensive
players fast breaking their way, while the others must wait until the
offensive players are past half
court – sprint to
the mid-circle – to get into the play.
Emphasis
Offensive players will
move at top speed with good spacing in filling lanes and will react
quickly to execute break options
while reading the
defense. Defensive players will sprint to recover and communicate to
get matched up.
