Ramaroson visits Mauritius to discuss future of basketball

PORT LOUIS - Jean-Michel Ramaroson, the President of FIBA Africa's National Federations Commission, teamed up with the Mauritius Basketball Federation (MBBF) and local sports stakeholders in the country's capital city of Port Louis to discuss the future of basketball on the island.

During the three-day workshop (23-26 May) attended by the country's Minister of Sports, the President of the National Olympic Committee and local companies, Ramaroson emphasised the new changes to be implemented in world basketball and stressed FIBA Africa's readiness to assist its members for the new era of the game.

Talking to FIBA.com, the Malagasy official said: "A new system of competition will be launched in 2017 and we thought it was important to help our national federations to prepare for the new challenges."

"The other objective was to see if Mauritius is ready to host next year's FIBA Africa U16 Championship."

Ramaroson and his counterparts also discussed the modernisation of MBBF, as well as the following subjects:
- The governance of the federation
- The structure of the sport structures
- Technical management of competitions

Before leaving the country, Ramaroson visited the competitions and accommodation facilities and held a press conference with local media to explain the importance of supporting and accompanying the MBBF for the outreach of the game on the island.
