When Latvia cut a 20-point deficit to just four late in the bronze medal game at last year’s EuroBasket Women, Belarus’ sharpshooting forward Tatyana Troina nailed two three-balls, collected a defensive rebound and made two free throws to seal victory. Troina, who led the University of South Carolina to the Sweet 16 as a senior, is extremely valuable to Belarus. In Europe, she first played professionally by going back and forth between Poland and Israel. This year with Maccabi Ramat Hen, she averaged 17.1 points and 6.7 rebounds in 10 games before playing the last 13 rounds of the regular season with Electra Ramat Hasharon, averaging 12.2 and 4.4. Troina is married to Andrey Krivonos, the captain of the Belarus men’s National Team.
