Joaquim “Kikas” Gomes has followed in the footsteps of the now retired legend Jean-Jacques Conceiçao and become the number one power forward in Angola. Having joined the National Team at only 19 years of age, he graduated from the University of Valparaiso in 2004 before spending a year in the German Bundesliga and then joining the Eiffel Towers Den Bosch in the Netherlands for a season. Known primarily for his rebounding, he has improved his offensive game. With the experience of playing at the Olympic Games (2004) and World Championships in 2002 and 2006, as well as winning the last four FIBA Africa Championships with Angola, Gomes has become the first inside offensive option of his team. During the last two international competitions, he was one of the two best scorers for Angola, alongside Olimpio Cipriano, as well as their best rebounder.
