In January of 1999, Nikita Morgunov arrived in Portland with the ambition of becoming the second Russian player to make it in the NBA. Unfortunately for him, the man Andrei Kirilenko calls ‘the white tiger’ did not see his dream come true. He never played a single game and spent one and half years on the Trail Blazers’ injury list. Frustrated by not realizing the “American dream”, he came back to Europe and did a great job with different clubs. Morgunov is an aging center with relatively slow feet but he is a big body and has loads of determination. Something that will never grow old for him are his courage and love for the game. This year, after three seasons with Dynamo Moscow, he signed with Khimki but played less than 10 minutes in the ULEB Cup. With Russia, Morgunov won EuroBasket 2007 – nine years after helping the country capture silver at the 1998 FIBA World Championship.
