Carmelo Anthony seems made for international basketball. Possessing excellent size and a deadly combination of quickness and strength, among the many talents he possesses is the ability to score. Whether it is scoring from the outside or getting it done down inside, he has shown the ability to put up a lot of points in a hurry. ‘Melo has proven himself as a talented scorer in college, the NBA and FIBA basketball. As a freshman Carmelo won an NCAA title with Syracuse University in 2003 and averaged 22.2 points a game. Drafted No. 3 in 2003, he established himself as the top scorer for the Denver Nuggets as an 18-year-old rookie scoring 21.0 points a game. Following his impressive first NBA season, “Melo” represented the United States at the 2004 Olympics. His dominating scoring efforts continued and in 2006 and 2007 he was selected All-NBA Third Team and ranked among the NBA’s top scorers accounting for 28.9 points in 2007 and 26.5 points in 2006. Voted a starter for the 2008 NBA All-Star Game, Anthony finished the season averaging 25.7 points. While asserting his skills in the NBA, he has also asserted his talents internationally. Named to the five-man 2006 FIBA World Championship All-Tournament Team after averaging a U.S. team high 19.9 points a contest, Carmelo set a U.S. single-game scoring mark with 35 points in a win over Italy. His high scoring ways continued in the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship where he finished second overall in scoring averaging 21.2 points.
