This is Granger's first experience with USA Basketball and he can’t wait to wear the red, white and blue uniform in Turkey.
“This is a great honour, not only to be selected with this group of players, but to have the opportunity to represent the United States,” he said.
“I think any athlete in any sport relishes the chance to wear that uniform.”
Granger had the best year of his career in 2008-2009 for the Pacers averaging 25.8 points per game and was named to the NBA All-Star team for the first time.
This past season was a little bit more difficult because he had to deal with injury for a good chunk of the season (24.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game) but he’s definitely ready to play in Istanbul.
At 6’9” the Pacers’ leader can get his shot off over almost anybody, and creates a match-up problem at either forward spot.
Granger is very unique as a big time scorer because he gets most of his points in the flow of the offense, just catching and shooting.
Granger’s size and outstanding outside shot should be a devastating combination against the zone defences favoured in international competition.
