The experienced shooter who used to be the co-captain of the National Team missed the triumph in China last year at the FIBA Asia Championships and was not at his best during the 2008 Olympics when he struggled to find his usual shooting form.

In fact, many have argued that this classy two-guard has not been quite the same ever since he fractured his leg during qualifying for Beijing.

Now coming up to his 30th birthday and beginning to approach veteran status, he needs to re-produce the form from earlier in his career.

Iran could benefit from his ability to score in streaky fashion, usually from the perimeter but he needs to find his rhythm early to make a real difference.

Still, he is a definite and proven game-winner on any given night and something of an ‘X Factor’ for Iran if fit and in contention.
