José Manuel `Moncho’ Monsalve played for Spain at the EuroBaskets in 1963, ’65 and ’67.
After a career which saw him turn out for San Sebastian, Real Madrid, Vitoria, Bilbao and Badalona, he retired as a player in 1972. Since then, he has coached numerous teams in Spain, Switzerland, Italy and France, as well as working with different National Teams. He won the silver medal at the 1995 American CentroBasket with the Dominican Republic. Before taking over the Brazilian team in January of this year as a replacement for Lula Ferreira, Monsalve worked on development programs for senior players at the Spanish Basketball Federation. As the coach of one of the world’s most talented teams, he expects to lead Brazil into the Olympics.
