Fitchett was MVP when leading Nelson College to the 2000 NZ Secondary Schools title and has now amassed 150 games in 10 NBL seasons. The highlight of his career so far was Nelson’s championship triumph last year. During that run to the title, Fitchett drilled eight of 10 shots from three-point range in an overtime win against Waikato. He finished with 34 points in that triumph. Already in tune with coach Nenad Vucinic’s system since he played under him at Nelson, Fitchett made his debut for New Zealand against Venezuela last year. He now has a golden opportunity to step up in the absence of veteran point guards Mark Dickel and Paul Henare.
