Juan José Barea was born and raised in Mayaguez, Puerrto Rico. He moved to the United States as a teenager to attend Miami Christian High School before playing at Northeastern University in Boston. Undrafted, Barea received an invitation to play in a summer league with Dallas and ended up making the team for the regular season. Barea played with the Mavericks for two years, serving as the third point guard. He made his debut with the Puerto Rico National Team at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship and was the back-up to Carlos Arroyo. Barea played for Puerto Rico at the 2003 FIBA World Championship for Junior Men, averaging 27.0 points, 5.9 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. He’s quick and can shoot from behind the arc.
