Ainars Zvirgzdins became a coach when he was just 20 years old and has a lot of experience at different levels, working with both men and women.

As an assistant coach, Zvirgzdins played a pivotal role in building the five-time Latvian champions of BK Ventspils as well as in the reconstruction process of the Latvian men’s National Team. In the winter of 2006, he became the head coach of Dynamo Moscow’s women and, a year later, Zvirgzdins won the 2007 EuroCup Women. In April 2007, Zvirgzdins became the head coach of the Latvian women’s National Team and immediately reached the main goal that had been set before EuroBasket 2007 – a place in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
