Australia should be even stronger than the team that won the 2006 FIBA World Championship since Suzie Batkovic is fit and playing for the Opals again. Injuries knocked her out of the national side for three years. A powerful presence on the low blocks, Batkovic can also step outside and hit three-pointers. She and Lauren Jackson give the Opals a twin towers look. Perhaps even more important than Batkovic’s excellence on the court is her leadership and good nature off it. She played at the 2008 Beijing Basketball Test Event in April and was in good form before suffering a dislocated thumb in a game against Cuba. Shet has recovered and is now ready to play at the Olympics.
