The two-time FIBA Europe Women’s Player of the Year remains a dominant force in the paint and a key player for the Russia National Team. Despite an average 2006-07 season with CSKA, she managed to lead Russia’s National Team to the gold medal at the EuroBasket last summer, leading the competition in rebounding. She had previously won gold at EuroBasket 2003, silver at EuroBasket 2005, bronze at the 2004 Olympics and silver at the 2006 FIBA World Championship. With CSKA Moscow in 2005, she won the EuroLeague title. The 29-year-old center is now looking for a gold medal at the Olympic Games. She would like nothing more than to lead Russia past Australia – the team that denied Stepanova’s team gold at the 2006 FIBA World Championship.
