One of eight USA Basketball athletes to be on named to three Olympic teams, Katie Smith has captured two Olympic and two FIBA World Championship gold medals during her lengthy USA Basketball career that began in 1993. In all, the USA’s leading scorer in women’s pro basketball history owns 10 gold medals, four silver medals and one bronze medal in international play. Not only does Smith help her teams earn gold medals, she’s also won three pro titles. She aided the ABL Columbus Quest to the 1997 and 1998 ABL crown and the WNBA Detroit Shock to the 2006 championship. Owning almost as many accolades as championships, the four-time All-WNBA selection has been named to eight all-star games, six in the WNBA and two in the ABL. As a college standout at the Ohio State University Smith as a freshman led the Buckeyes to the 1993 NCAA championship game. She was honored by the Columbus Touchdown Club as the Ohio State Female Athlete of the Century, with the Male Athlete of the Century honor going to Olympic track and field legend Jesse Owens.
