Zhang Xiaoni comes from a family with a sports tradition and showed her talent at an early age. But ever since she entered the National Team and Bayi Army team, she has backed up Chen Nan - the starting center of both teams. Zhang has got used to the role, and has developed a close relationship with Chen Nan. Compared with Chen Nan, Zhang is weaker in shooting but better on defense. Zhang Xiaoni’s performances have always been mediocre in international games and she missed the 2004 Athens Olympics. Zhang Xiaoni entered the National Team set-up again after Maher became the head coach.
