Career: Ohio State (USA-NCAA, 1997-00), Milwaukee Bucks (USA-NBA, 2000-08).
The value of a sharpshooter has long been a commodity every NBA and USA team desired. The problem has been there just aren’t a lot around. Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Redd appears ready and able to fill that role for the U.S. team in 2008. As a member of the 2007 USA Team that won the FIBA Americas Championship, he averaged 14.0 ppg. on 53.0 percent (53-100 FGs) shooting from the field, 45.3 percent (29-64 3pt FGs) from 3-point, and a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line. Redd’s shooting touch is legendary and his hoops resume is filled with memorable long range sharpshooting feats. As a member of the ’07 USA Team, he recorded 23 points on 7-of-8 3-point shooting in the USA’s semifinals win over Puerto Rico. He set an NBA record for 3-point field goals made in a quarter after sinking eight in the fourth period versus Houston on Feb. 20, 2002. That effort also earned him a share of the NBA record for most 3-point shots made in a half. Still not impressed? Then how about nine made 3-pointers in one NBA game or the string of 50 consecutive free throws he made from Feb. 14 to March 1, 2006?
