The explosive Spanoulis has a strong first step and is capable of penetrating at will. An extremely quick guard with great court vision and strong ball-handling skills, Spanoulis had a disappointing one-year experiment in the NBA in 2006-07 with the Houston Rockets. He returned to Panathinaikos last summer and led the team in scoring during the Greek top flight’s regular season. Since his first game with the National U18 team in 1999, he has always been on duty with the blue and whites. He won a bronze at the U18 European Championship and celebrated gold at the U20 event in 2002. His first appearance with the senior men came at the 2004 Olympics and a year later, he continued to increase his collection, capturing gold at EuroBasket 2005 and silver at the FIBA World Championship in 2006. Spanoulis was one of Greece’s leading players at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
