Considered a top-level prospect when he was 16 years old, Loncar did not live up to the expectations. A Croatian National Team star at the U16, U18 and U20 levels, Loncar had yet to represent his country as a senior before the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Athens. He left his hometown basketball school of BC Split when signing for four years with Benetton at only 17 and then spent two years at Dirk Nowitzki’s former club, Wurzburg, and one in Teramo. Now, the 25-year old Loncar has just finished his second season in Rostov and has been a EuroCup All-Starin three of the past four years. He averaged 14.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in last year’s EuroCup, showing that he still can be an effective player. Maybe the best of Loncar is yet to come. He certainly made the most of his minutes for Croatia at the Olympic qualifying event. Without him, they may not have reached Beijing.
