Welcome to Nanjing
We are delighted to be back here in Nanjing for the 2008 FIBA Diamond Ball Tournament for Men. This city has been already a wonderful host for the 2002 FIBA World Championship for Women in 2002. We do have fond memories about this excellent event.
The 2008 FIBA Diamond Ball will be an outstanding overture to the basketball tournaments at the Beijing Olympics. Not only that you will host the reigning Olympic champion Argentina, but with Angola, Australia and Iran you also will host the reigning continental champions from Africa, Oceania and Asia. In addition the European powerhouse Serbia and 2002 FIBA World Champion Serbia will leave its footprints in Nanjing.
Undoubtedly the major attraction at the tournament will be the appearance of the Chinese team with its hero Yao Ming. The fact that China will have big ambitions at the Olympics and that the Diamond ball is played just one week before the Olympic basketball tournament will draw the attention of the whole country on Nanjing. This will certainly result in an Olympic atmosphere that we can embrace in your beautiful city.
We look very much forward to a fantastic basketball celebration and to your famous hospitality.
We would like to use the opportunity to thank the city of Nanjing and the Jiangsu Province for their support as well as the Chinese Basketball Association in hosting this event.
Good luck to all the teams!
