TOKUSHIMA (FIBA Asia Championship) - Jordan defeated Chinese Taipei 97-74 to take the fifth place - their highest finish ever in Asian Championships -- on Sunday.
Zaid Abbas was the leading scorer for Jordan with 24 points, and also collected 13 rebounds. Zaid AlKhas contributed 15 points.
"Finishing fifth is not bad after all, considering it's a new high for Jordan. But then we are obviously disappointed because we set out to win the Championship," AlKhas said.
"This team has achieved quite a bit in a very short time," said Jordan coach Mario Palma.
"We finished fourth in Asian Games (Doha 2006), won the William Jones Cup last month and now we finished fifth here. All this are happening for the first time. This team is capable of even higher things, if their talent is channelized properly," the Portuguese said.
