TOKUSHIMA (FIBA Asia Championship) - The presence of Joseph Vogel providing the necessary impetus, Lebanon cantered towards a place in the semifinals, beating Chinese Taipei 95-64 in Group E of the Quarterfinal round on Wednesday.

Vogel who suffered a nasty injury took to the court sporting a bandage to cover the six sutures on the bridge of his nose, but that was no impediment to his mellifluous display.

The 34-year-old center was his influential self, scoring 14 points and colleting six rebounds as Fadi El-Khatib moved around with customary élan. Khatib top scored the game with 28 points, scoring at a staggering rate in all the possible options.

"Things went exactly they way we wanted," Lebanon coach Dragan Raca said.

"We were a little concerned when they began to box out Fadi, but he took it in his stride and produced a marvelous performance."

"It was nothing," Vogel brushed off the injury. "Nothing serious. All a part of the game," the 211cm center added.

"Moreover, I've come here determined to play the Olympics. This injury is too small to stop me from playing," he said.

"It turned out to be a lot easier than we thought. Fortunately for us," the Al Riyadhi Beirut star quipped.

"Vogel presence took the game away from us," lamented Taipei coach Chung Kwang-Suk.

"We changed the defense pattern after failing in our zone early, but even that didn't help," said the coach of Korean origin.

"Our shooting too was not up to the mark. In that scenario, we stood no chance," he said.

Lebanon 95 (Fadi El-Khatib 28, Joseph Vogel 14, Brian Feghali 14) bt Chinese Taipei 64 (Chen Hsin-An 21, Lin Chih-Chieh 15). Quarterwise: 21-13, 39-25, 67-48.
