TOKUSHIMA (FIBA Asia Championship) - Kazakhstan, like against Indonesia on Saturday, began steadily, picked up pace midway and cantered through the rest of the encounter.
After the initial sparring during which India managed to reply each basket, Anton Ponomarev and Yevgeniy Issakov switched gears to help the Kazakhs run a 11-0 spree. A lead Kazakhstan only increased as the game progressed.
Ponomarev combined his game top score of 29, collecting 10 rebounds and virtually stood like a rock to dash any hopes India might have nurtured.
It certainly will be interesting to watch 29-year-old Kazakh mainstay pits his wares against the much taller Qatari combination.
Kazakhstan 97 (Anton Ponomarev 29, Yevgeniy Issakov 17, Mikhail Yevstigenyev 16) bt India 74 (Jagdeep Singh 11, Lokesh Yadav 10). Quarterwise: 23-11, 50-31, 74-51.
