EKATERINBURG (Women's World League) - Canberra Capitals finally made their breakthrough in the FIBA Women's World League with a 74-68 win over Basketball Club Habana in the Classification Round.
In a group of death which also included CSKA Moscow, a USA Basketball Select and TEO Vilnius, Canberra lost all three of their games.
But Friday was a different story against a very good Habana side.
Canberra trailed 35-33 before going on a 13-3 run that bridged the second and third quarters to lead 46-38.
They didn't pull away for a decisive victory, but did stay in front for the remainder of the contest.
Natalie Ann Hurst led the way with 19 points for the Australians while
Yakelyn Plutín Tizon had a game-high 21 in defeat for Habana.
