EKATERINBURG (FIBA Women's World League) - UMMC Ekaterinburg used a dominant second-half performance against Basketball Club Habana to turn a half-time deficit into their second win in two Women's World League games.
The Cubans led 45-43 at the halfway stage but, led by points from 2006 FIBA Young Player of the Year Sandrine Gruda, the tournament hosts stormed back to claim a 95-74 win.
As the Russians failed to make the most of home-court advantage, Yakelyn Tizon led the way and Habana threatened to pull away in the first quarter.
A two-pointer from Elena Karpova ensured the home side were level at the start of the second quarter, which followed a similar pattern.
A tap-in form Tizon, who made seven-of-seven two-pointers on her way to a personal haul of 20, snapped a tie just before half-time to put Ekaterinburg under pressure.
But the hosts crushed Habana 34-8 in the third quarter, after which there was only going to be one winner.
Gruda added six rebounds to her 19 points, while Penny Taylor, MVP at last year's FIBA World Championships for Women, also claimed seven rebounds.
Fellow Australian Suzy Batkovic poured in 16 points.
